Selina-Jane Trigg - Principal

I am the family law geek of the team. After a (very) brief stint employed with a large commercial law firm, I quickly learned the error of my ways and discovered my niche in family law. I have been practising almost exclusively in family law for 13 years and it still rocks my world.

After spending 6 months having adventures through South America I returned in 2002 and set up a family law practice of my own. That practice has taken on a life of its own so my main role now is to lead the team of lawyers, oversee the progression of our clients' matters, serve as a sounding board when the other lawyers need one and be involved in the strategic development of the practice - all while ensuring we all keep learning, keep challenging ourselves and keep being excited about what we do. I am blessed with a great, highly motivated team so the last task is not difficult.

When I leave the office, I can usually be found: in my kitchen cooking up a storm (the team at Family Law Results love the leftovers!), bent over a sewing machine,  ensconced in a movie theatre, researching my family history, spinning on an rpm bike (or a real one), reading travel or cook books (yes, I read cook books but only for the pictures!) or in the company of my two step children being enthralled, challenged and awestruck by them.

Solicitor, Barrister, Lawyer or Legal Eagle?

At Family Law Results we call our lawyers "Legal Eagles". Why? We want our lawyers to stand out from the crowd and because we want them to aspire to being the best. Not just lawyers but Legal Eagles instead.

Solicitor, Barrister or Lawyer - what's the difference?

Lawyer is a catch all term for barristers, solicitors, in-house counsel - everyone who practises law.

Barristers, traditionally, are those lawyers who represent people in court. Solicitors, traditionally, are the lawyers who work with the client and instruct the barrister. In practical terms, in New Zealand, there is not a lot of difference and all of the lawyers at Family Law Results are Barristers and Solicitors.
